Lower Limb Injury Clinic

The muscles, ligaments, joints and bones of the foot and lower limb can be injured as a result of many factors including:

  • Accidents/trauma
  • Sports or training injuries
  • Overuse from day to day activities
  • Changes in underlying structure and function
  • Poor or inappropriate footwear

Detailed history taking and assessment can help identify the cause of the problem and guide treatment or onward referral for further investigation.

Assessment

An initial assessment typically would include:

  • Taking a history of the presenting complaint and a medical history
  • An examination to provide a working diagnosis
  • Advice to manage the problem including self-help and any recommended treatment
  • Referral for further investigation or detailed gait analysis
  • Advice on time to recovery

Further investigation may include an assessment of walking and/or running gait which involves use of the latest video and 3D infrared cameras and force plate systems.

Deficiencies or anomalies in a person’s manner of walking or running can lead to injuries anywhere in the body but especially in the lower limb. Assessing the way a person walks or runs can determine whether this is a factor in the injury and can be the key to successful treatment and rehabilitation of the problem.

Run3D is our state if the art 3D gait assessment system and is particularly useful in the assessment and treatment of running related injuries. For more details see here.

Detailed history taking and assessment can help identify the cause of the problem and guide treatment or onward referral for further investigation.
