Treating verrucas
Treating verrucas can be frustrating, especially when you’ve already tried home remedies and over the counter products with no results. It’s time to see a podiatrist – like us at Epsom Footcare – who are fully trained in all things feet.
Verrucas are small, rough benign lesions which are usually found on the sole of the foot. They are often referred to as plantar warts and are caused by a strain of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). In this article we explain the process of seeing one of our podiatrists to get you on track to resolving your verruca nightmares.
What happens in your first verruca appointment?
Our podiatrists will give you expert advice and provide treatment for your stubborn verrucas. If you are new to visiting our clinic, or haven’t been to us in the last 2 years, and are suffering from persistent verrucas, you will need to see us for an initial consultation.
During this appointment your friendly podiatrist will take a thorough medical history and complete a full assessment of your feet, including checking the condition of your circulation and sensation. They will also assess the skin which may involve debridement (shaving down) of the overlying hard skin to better visualise the verrucas. They will then be able to confirm the diagnosis and recommend the best course of treatment for your needs.
Everyone’s health and foot conditions are different so what’s best for someone else may not be suited to you. We sometimes find what you thought was a verruca, to actually be a completely different condition!
Once a treatment plan has been agreed we can often start there and then, as long as time allows and the equipment is available.
You can find out more about verruca treatments here or contact our Patient Care Team who will help with further information and find you a suitable appointment.
Worried about what we’ll think?
Our team has seen it all before, from little verrucas dotted around to large clusters covering most of the foot; there is no need to be embarrassed. In fact, around 10% of the population have warts or verrucas so they’re more common than you think. Our friendly team is here to help. We don’t judge; we want to help you find the solution.
What if it’s not a verruca?
Podiatrists are qualified in all things feet so you won’t have a wasted visit. If it turns out it’s not a verruca on your foot, we can still tell you what it is and how to treat it. Our aim is to get you back to feeling pain free and confident about your feet, no matter what your condition is.
